Like the rest of the Bay Area, residents enjoy a sunny Mediterranean climate with mild weather year-round. Sports enthusiasts are in luck as Oakland is home to multiple pro/amateur sports leagues (Oakland Athletics for baseball, Oakland Roots SC for soccer, and the Warriors playing in nearby San Francisco for basketball). Also a rising foodie destination with an array of ethnic fare and farm to table dining. Spots of note: Understory Oakland for Filipino/ Moroccan flavors, Lois the Pie Queen for a classic soul food experience, Commis, named the best restaurant in the East Bay for a mix of unique ingredients and open kitchen concept, Taco’s Oscar for the most delicious tacos in Oakland, and Shakewell for modern Spanish bistro tapas, wine, beer, and hand-crafted cocktails. Lake Merritt offers outdoor enthusiasts green spaces, picnic areas, themed gardens, and a three-mile path along the shoreline for walking, biking, or jogging.
